Serving Our Communities and The World
The 48th Highlanders operates with a dual mission, serving both locally and globally.
In Service to Canadians: Our primary role is deeply rooted in service to the people of Canada. This commitment forms a powerful link between the civilian lives of our soldiers and the communities we serve. Whether responding to national emergencies under Canada Command tasks or being called out under “Aide to the Civil Power,” the 48th Highlanders have proudly served across the breadth and width of our country. Our soldiers are prepared to support non-combat operations, including delivering vital humanitarian aid and participating in critical peacekeeping missions.
Global Horizons: Augmenting Regular Forces: Beyond our national borders, the 48th Highlanders play a vital role in augmenting Canada’s Regular Forces, supporting operations outside of Canada. Our members have a distinguished history of serving overseas for over 100 years, from historic conflicts to modern peace-support and training missions, and continue to serve around the world today. Joining us means becoming part of an elite force with a global reach.
An iconic and integral part of our regiment is the world-renowned Pipes and Drums. Formed in 1891 alongside the regiment, this ensemble is recognized as one of Canada’s pre-eminent musical organizations. Our pipers and drummers are not just musicians; they are soldiers who uphold the highest standards of both military skills and musical excellence.
With a glorious history that includes performances across North America and Europe, the Pipes and Drums provide musical support, promote military ethos, and foster unparalleled morale and esprit de corps within the regiment. Being part of this distinguished musical tradition is a unique opportunity to contribute to a legacy of sound and ceremony, while experiencing the vibrant culture and camaraderie that defines the 48th Highlanders.
