48th birthday — 135th Anniversary

On October 16, 1891, General Order No. 28 officially authorized the formation of the 48th Battalion (Highlanders) in Toronto as an active militia infantry unit, fulfilling a passionate effort by local Scottish-Canadian citizens to establish a highland regiment. Under the initial leadership of Lieutenant-Colonel John Irvine Davidson, the unit quickly adopted its distinctive Davidson tartan and Gaelic motto, Dìleas Gu Bràth (“Faithful Forever”).
