Message from the HLCol Appeal for funds for the Girvan medals (dedicated fundraiser to December 22nd)

GREETINGS HIGHLANDERS – SERVING SOLDIERS, FORMER SERVING MEMBERS AND MEMBERS OF OUR EXTENDED REGIMENTAL FAMILY

We are pleased to report that the medals of Brigadier JP Girvan and his wife Nursing Sister Jean Elizabeth Sword have been successfully acquired at Noonans auction (lots 80 and 103 on December 7th www.noonans.co.uk). Brigadier Girvan is our Regiment’s most decorated Highlander.  The bidding was intense. HCOL MacIntyre was up at the crack of dawn along with our agent in order to secure and bring home the medals.  The bidding went well in excess of expectations. Our agent has generously donated her fee and we are most grateful.

Brigadier JP (Big John) Girvan CBE, DSO*, MC, VD (Crois de Guerre of France)

While we have received robust support from the Regimental family (and a huge thank you to those who have already pledged and paid), we are at only 40% of our funding.

We are appealing to you, our Regimental Family, to help us cover the acquisition costs for the medals of this extraordinary 48th family by donating to the Trusts before December 22nd.

There is a specified funds drop down menu on the Canada Helps site: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/48th-highlanders-trusts/

Cheques may also be sent, payable to “48th Highlanders Trusts” to my attention at 97 College View Ave, Toronto, Ontario, M5P 1K2. Please email me at sasha.darling@scotiawealth.com to let me know if you are sending a cheque so that we can track donations.

Many thanks in advance for your support of our Regiment and its exceptional legacy.

Stay strong. Stay connected.
